VOLUNTEER CORNER

By Mary Ann Forman
Director of Volunteers

Wow, I have more thank yous to extend than ever!   Where to start?   What seemed like a simple job of replacing fluorescent light bulbs in the laundry area of the Bridgeway house turned into an electrical job needing a professional.   So, former resident, Desiree’s husband, Mike, with S. J. O. Electric stepped up to the plate and volunteered his time and expertise and had the problem taken care of in a jiffy.   No more mixing clothes in the dark!

The Bridgeway office now can run much more efficiently with our new IBM computers which were donated to us through a program called Teaming 4 Technology.   We applied for a grant through T4T, and we were recipients of 6 (count ‘em, SIX) new IBM computers, monitors, and keyboards.   With the wonderful help of volunteer, Tobias Tonelli, who spent countless hours in the office, as well as at home, installing the programs we had purchased, transferring data from our old computers to the new ones and installing the new computers in the office, we now are up and running!

Yet another volunteer, Dawn Rehbein, was reading the informational packet regarding our fundraiser, 2005, and learned that the Bridgeway house was in desperate need of upgrades in 2 bathrooms and the kitchens.   The next thing we knew, she had a bathtub and tiles re-glazed, AND she had sent in her company’s Table Sponsorship reservation!   What an amazing woman!

In another area of this newsletter you will see our wish list, and with the holidays quickly approaching the air is filled with Christmas at Bridgeway.   If you have some time on your hands and would like to be a part of this fun, hectic, and wonderful celebration, please call the Bridgeway office and speak with Jaime.

We have volunteer opportunities ranging from organizing and wrapping gifts for over 200 moms and children, to transporting those gifts to the Knights of Columbus hall where we will be holding the big party for the second year in a row, to helping in various ways the evening of the party.   We call this the BIG party, and it will be held on December 9 at 6:00 p.m.   We invite former and current residents, and of course their families, and it is truly wonderful to see each of them as they grow and mature and come back to share with us and each other just what they have been doing in the past year.

My volunteer files are filled with amazing people like the above, and I would love to add your name to my list.   Our next volunteer orientation will be held after the holidays, so please call me at the office at 303-969-0515 if you would like to attend.
