Summer 2006 Bridgeway Newsletter

Volunteer Corner

By Mary Ann Forman, Director of Volunteers

Volunteers have bloomed for Bridgeway all summer.  We are quite pleased to have a young man mowing the grass every week or so.  We have two special volunteers working with the housemothers to keep the garden growing and as weed-free as possible.  We have the volunteers helping in the office with newsletter mailings, answering phones and general clerical assistance.

I would like to express my thanks to the numerous individuals as well as groups who have taken their time to bake cakes for special occasions, provide dinner for the residents, teach classes, baby-sit, and hold baby showers at the house.  Although summer time is not as hectic as Christmas and fundraiser time in regards to volunteer needs at Bridgeway, we do still have many opportunities and appreciate those people who have given of their time and talent to keep us going.

Here are just a few of the groups I would like to thank for their support this past year:  the Lakewood Kiwanis Club that held a huge diaper drive; the Belmar Optimists for their food drives, Christmas giving trees, and Bridgeway fundraiser support; the Sunrise Optimists for Halloween pumpkins and carving tools; the Denver Tech Kiwanis for the ongoing gifts of book bags with the Bridgeway baby's name on them, and daycare bags for new babies starting in Bridgeway's Brilliant Beginnings daycare, and the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church for a huge baby shower that was held in March of this year to benefit Bridgeway moms and babies.

As we approach the end of summer and the beginning of fall weather we will be looking for volunteers to help with yard cleanup.  If this is of interest to you, or a group of your friends, please don’t hesitate to call the office at 303-969-0515 to volunteer.  There are several different ways to volunteer for Bridgeway and I would be happy to visit with you and help you find the area of special interest to you.

Things I’ve learned as a new mom:

1) It’s expensive.
2) You’re always tired.
3) It’s not easy.
4) Diapers are your best friend!
Congratulations to Kayla, a former Bridgeway resident, who has received a full scholarship to Metro Community College from the Mayor’s Youth Board Commission.

Way to go Kayla!
